Key Stage 3 & GCSE English
Experienced and qualified English teachers
Along with maths, GCSE English language is probably the most crucial qualification for any 16 year old to pass. Our KS3 and GCSE English tutors are all experienced and qualified teachers that either teach or have recently taught in schools in and around St Ives. They are in a perfect position to help students develop the skills they need to achieve their goal in English – whether that goal is to improve their reading or writing in year 7, to get the critical GCSE English language pass, or simply to better understand Shakespeare or poetry.
Support and immediate feedback
We can support your son or daughter with any topics they’ve found difficult in class during the week, or that we identify that they need to develop. Students get lots of 1-2-1 time with their tutor and also opportunities to practice independently what they have been working on with their tutor. The immediate, detailed and constructive feedback that tutors are able to give allows our students to quickly improve and move forward. Prior to mocks and the actual GCSE exams, we can help students with their revision and work with them on practice exam papers – helping them to build their confidence and exam techniques.

Is your child…
Finding Shakespeare confusing?
Desperate to get their level 4 in English language?
Struggling to adapt to secondary English?
Lacking motivation?
Looking to extend their understanding?
Finding the terminology tricky?
Why parents choose St Ives Tutoring Centre
Every child learns differently, which is why we never take a one-size-fits-all approach to learning. Our experienced primary tutors take the time to understand each child’s individual strengths, identify where extra support is needed and create a personalised learning journey that helps them grow in confidence, strengthen their understanding and enjoy learning again.
Experienced English Teachers
Our tutors are experienced, fully qualified secondary English teachers with an in-depth understanding of the National Curriculum and content and techniques needed for GCSE English. From Year 7 through to Year 11, they know how to recognise where children need support, challenge those who are ready to progress further, and adapt every lesson to suit the individual student.
Personalised 1-2-1 Learning
Whether your child is finding English language or literature difficult, in year 7 and adapting to a new way of working through to preparing for GCSEs in year 11, every lesson is tailored to their individual needs. By working at the right pace, we can help all children develop stronger skills, greater confidence and hopefully a genuine enjoyment of learning (that’s the aim anyway!).
Supportive Learning Environment
Our friendly and encouraging environment allows children to ask questions, make mistakes and develop without the pressures they can sometimes experience in a busy classroom. By building positive relationships with every student, we create a place where learning feels enjoyable, rewarding and achievable.
Strong Foundations for Future Success
Many learning difficulties stem from small gaps in understanding that have developed over time. Rather than simply moving on to the next book, poem or piece of writing, we identify those gaps and try to then fill them in to ensure children have the confidence and knowledge they need before tackling more challenging work. It’s an approach that helps students make lasting progress, not just short-term improvements.

With the introduction of the new 9-1 GCSE maths courses, more students than ever are finding GCSE maths tough. They really are a step up in standard.
The GCSE Science courses are changing from September 2017 to follow the 9-1 structure. We have specialist biology, chemistry and physics teachers.
We recognise that all students learn so much better when they are motivated and confident. Our tutors are absolutely dedicated to supporting your child.
We understand that children (and parents!) can find preparing for entrance exams stressful, so we provide a welcoming, safe learning environment…
